What we keep, and why

This site asks for very little: only what you type into a form, so we can answer you. No tracking, no analytics and no ads.

Who we are

Who runs this site

This is the website of FIRST Robotics Competition Team 195, the CyberKnights, a community team in Southington, Connecticut. It is run by the team's volunteer mentors, with the support of CyberKnights Robotics Inc. (cyberknightsrobotics.org), the nonprofit behind the team. Questions about this page go to [email protected].

What we collect

Only what you send us

Reading the site asks you for nothing. The forms ask for this:

  • Contact and KnightLine: your name, email address, a team number if you give one, the topic, a subject and your message.
  • FLL Relaunch registration: your name, email address, a phone number if you give one, and any note you add.
  • Practice field requests: your name, email address, team number and team name, any notes, and the days you ask for.

With each form we also store your IP address and the browser details your browser sends (its user agent). We use those only to spot and stop spam. While you are sending forms, the site also keeps a short-lived count against your IP address to limit how many can be sent in an hour; that count clears itself.

Why

What we use it for

To reply to you, to run the program or the practice field days you asked about, and to keep spam out. We never sell your information, we never share it for anyone's marketing, and we never add you to a mailing list.

Who sees it

Who handles it

  • The team's mentors read what you send and answer it.
  • Cloudflare carries every connection to this site, and on the pages with a form it runs a spam check (Turnstile) that sees your IP address and browser details.
  • Gmail, the team's email provider, delivers a copy of each form to the mentors, so they can reply from their inbox.
  • Donations are made on Zeffy, under Zeffy's own privacy policy. This site never sees your card or bank details.

Cookies

One cookie, and no tracking

This site sets one cookie of its own, a session cookie called ck_session. It is what makes the forms and the sign-in pages work, it goes when you close your browser (a team member who signs in to the members area stays signed in for a month), and nothing else reads it. There are no analytics, advertising or social media trackers on this site, so there is no cookie banner to click through.

How long

Deleted after about three years

Contact and KnightLine messages and FLL Relaunch registrations are kept on this site for about three years from the day they arrive, then deleted automatically, IP address and browser details included. A practice field request is deleted three years after the last day it booked. If you would like your information deleted sooner, including any copy in our email, just ask.

Young people

Children under 13

The forms are meant for adults and teens. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or teacher to write to us for you.

Photos

Photos at our events

We take photos and video at the team's own events and share some of them here and on our social media. We say so at the event, and coming along means you agree to it. If you would like a photo of you or your child taken down, email [email protected] and we will remove it.

Your choice

Seeing or deleting your information

To see what we hold about you, correct it or have it deleted, email [email protected] from the address you used, and a mentor will take care of it.
